The Electrophoretic Analyses of the Serum Proteins

چکیده

The intimate association of the liver with the maintenance of normal serum proteins is well established. An increase in serum globulin, with inversion of the albumin-globulin ratio, is a common finding in cirrhosis of the liver, but normal serum proteins are observed frequently in the acute parenchymatous diseases of the liver like catarrhal jaundice and arsenical hepatitis (1). The serum protein fractions in cancer of the liver are quite variable. Determination of the serum proteins by the usual precipitation methods has led to the conception that the proteins may be considered normal when the serum albumin or globulin content falls within the empirically determined normal range. By electrophoretic analysis, however, the protein constituents within the serum globulin may be markedly abnormal, although their sum total by chemical analysis falls within the normal range. Electrophoretic studies by Luetscher (2) and Longsworth (3) indicate that an increase in beta and gamma globulin, associated with a decrease in albumin, occurs in cirrhosis of the liver. Only a few cases of liver cirrhosis were studied, and most of these investigations were made in the advanced stages of the disease, in which the serum proteins already appeared abnormal by the usual clhemical methods. Little is known, however, about the electrophoretic distribution of these proteins in different types of liver disease and in various stages of hepatic insufficiency, particularly in the early stages of liver disease where the serum proteins are presumably normal by chemical analysis. The present investigation includes the electrophoretic analysis of the serum proteins of patients with acute parenchymatous liver disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer of the liver. Patients with extrahepatic jaundice caused by gall stones were also studied, and the results obtained by electrophoretic and chemical analysis in the various types of liver disease and in extrahepatic jaundice were compared. Patients with varying degrees of liver insufficiency were studied in each group.

Effect of water salinity on total protein and electrophoretic pattern of serum proteins of grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella

In this study the effects of water salinity on serum total protein and its components in grass carp were investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of salinity tolerance of fish on total serum protein level and its components as an indicator of liver and kidney activity. One hundred and twenty grass carp were divided into four groups, randomly. The first three groups were r...

بررسی ترکیبات گلیکوزیله نهایی آلبومین سرم (AGE) در افراد دیابتی به روش ایزوالکتریک فوکوسینگ (IEF) و فلورسانس جهت ارزیابی پیشرفت بیماری دیابت

Background: The non-enzymatic glycosylation (NEG) of proteins in diabetes damages both the structure and function of these proteins. In vivo and in vitro studies have shown that NEG of proteins and advanced glycosylation end-products (AGE) contribute to the pathogenesis of both macrovascular, such as atherosclerosis, and microvascular complications, such as retinopathy and nephropathy, in diabe...

Comparative in silico analyses of proteins involved in serum resistance as promising vaccine candidates against Acinetobacter baumannii

Introduction: Acinetobacter baumannii as a Gram-negative coccobacillus has become a major cause of hospital-acquired infections. The virulence factors involved in serum resistance are important targets in the development of an effective vaccine against this pathogen. Our aim in this project was in silico analyses of A. baumannii proteins involved in serum resistance which could potentially be u...

Comparative study of synovial fluid and serum protein electrophoretic pattern of river buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in Ahvaz

Electrophoresis is a meticulous method in para-clinical science but has received less attention. In this study, the protein profile of synovial fluid of carpal joint and blood serum in buffalo was detected. Sampling was performed by arthrocentesis of 80 left and right forelimbs and obtaining blood serums of 40 Bubalus bubalis in Ahvaz industrial slaughterhouse. Samples were str...
